Pet Policy
The Roost – Pet Policy
We know that dogs are part of the family, and we’re delighted to welcome well-behaved four-legged guests to The Roost.
To ensure everyone enjoys their stay, including our neighbours, local wildlife and livestock, we ask that all guests comply with the following conditions.
- Eligibility
- The Roost welcomes dogs only. Cats and all other pets are not permitted.
- A maximum of two (2) dogs is permitted per cottage.
- The Roost reserves the right to refuse or cancel a booking involving a dog where, acting reasonably, it considers this necessary for the safety, welfare or enjoyment of guests, staff, neighbouring properties, wildlife, livestock or the accommodation.
- Guests must declare that they will be bringing a dog at the time of booking.
- Dogs that have not been declared may result in additional charges or cancellation of the booking.
- Pet Fee
- An additional pet fee applies to each stay with a dog. The applicable fee will be advised at the time of booking.
- This fee contributes towards the additional cleaning required to remove pet hair and allergens.
- During Your Stay
- Dogs are welcome inside the cottage; however, we ask that they are kept off furniture wherever possible.
- Furniture covers and towels are provided to help protect furnishings if required.
- Whenever your dog is outside the cottage or its enclosed yard, it must be on a leash or otherwise safely restrained (such as in a crate or suitable carry bag).
- Guests are responsible for providing their dog’s bedding, food, medication and any other specific care requirements.
- The cottages do not have dog doors. If your dog is normally kept indoors, please ensure it is taken outside regularly for toilet breaks.
- Complimentary waste bags are provided. Please clean up after your dog promptly and dispose of waste in the bins provided near the garage or front entrance.
- Leaving Your Dog Unattended
- Dogs should not be left unattended for extended periods or overnight.
- If you leave your dog unattended in the cottage for a short period, you must ensure it has:
- adequate drinking water;
- appropriate enrichment or toys;
- a comfortable resting place; and
- will not cause excessive barking, distress, damage or nuisance to neighbours or other guests.
- Dogs must never be left unattended inside a vehicle.
- Noise and Behaviour
- For the enjoyment of all guests, neighbours and local wildlife, dogs must remain under effective control at all times.
- Where reasonable, The Roost will provide one warning if a dog causes ongoing nuisance through excessive barking or disruptive behaviour. If the behaviour continues, or if the behaviour is serious (including aggression or safety concerns), The Roost may require the guest and their dog to leave the property immediately. In these circumstances, refunds will not be provided.
- Animal Welfare
- The Roost is committed to the welfare of all animals.
- The Roost reserves the right to require a guest to leave the property if, acting reasonably, it believes a dog is being neglected, mistreated or placed at risk, including being left unattended for unreasonable periods or without appropriate care.
- Wildlife and Livestock
- The Roost is located in a rural environment surrounded by native wildlife and neighbouring farmland.
- Guests are responsible for ensuring their dog does not chase, harass or disturb wildlife, livestock, other animals or people.
- Any incident involving livestock, wildlife or another person must be reported to The Roost immediately.
- Guests may be responsible for any injury, loss or damage caused by their dog.
- Responsibility and Liability
- Guests remain solely responsible for the supervision and control of their dog throughout their stay.
- Although each cottage has an enclosed yard, guests are responsible for determining whether the fencing is suitable for their dog’s size, breed and behaviour. The Roost does not warrant that the fencing will prevent every dog from escaping.
- To the extent permitted by law, The Roost accepts no liability for the loss, illness, injury, escape or death of a guest’s dog, or for damage or injury caused by the dog to people, livestock, wildlife, other animals or property.
- Nothing in this policy excludes or limits any rights or guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable legislation.
- Compliance with Victorian Law
- Guests are responsible for ensuring their dog complies with all applicable Victorian legislation.
- Guests bringing declared dangerous dogs, declared menacing dogs or restricted breed dogs must comply with all legal requirements, including registration, control and muzzling requirements where applicable.
- The Roost reserves the right not to accept declared dangerous dogs, declared menacing dogs or restricted breed dogs.
